Edible oils may be contaminated with unwanted natural and anthropogenic compounds, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), which may in turn be removed with activated carbon.

Chemviron can supply special grades of high purity powdered and granular activated carbons that provide excellent methods of edible oil purification. In addition, the granular carbons can also be supplied in mobile service equipment and a service for recycling by thermal reactivation can be provided.

Chemviron has developed a number of high quality PULSORB® powdered activated carbons that have been optimised for specific contaminant removal and also high filterability, including the new grade called PULSORB®  HF250, manufactured in the UK. The carbon can be added on its own or mixed with bleaching earth for the treatment of edible oils such as: Palm oil, Coconut oil, Sunflower oil, Soybean oil, Fish oil, Olive oil, Rapeseed oil.
